Traveling is a popular activity and hobby that many people enjoy throughout the year, as they are able to explore far-off lands or simply investigate the nooks and crannies of their own local backyard. To make the most out of any adventure on the road, sky, or water - it is important to conduct thorough research, properly prepare, and most of all - stay safe.

Road To Nowhere

In the 1930s and 1940s, Swain County, North Carolina gave up the majority of its private land to the Federal Government for the creation of Fontana Lake and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Hundreds of people were forced to leave the small Smoky Mountain communities that had been their homes for generations.

With the creation of the Park, their homes were gone, and so was the road to those communities, Old Highway 288 was buried beneath the deep waters of Fontana Lake.

Alaskan Cruise - When To Sail

Posted on March 19, 2008

The Alaskan cruise is often overlooked when shopping for a cruise. Most people consider a warm destination first. Some popular ones are the Mexican Riviera, the Panama Canal, the Caribbean, and the Bahamas. The itinerary is also an important factor to account for. These cruises can be quite a treat for first-time cruisers.

However, for regular cruise aficionados, they might be hunting for an idea of a cruise that is a little different from the usual destinations previously mentioned. If the itinerary is still the same although they are sailing with different cruise line, the element of uniqueness and excitement is not present in their cruise vacation.

While most of us are wondering if it’s safe to fly in today’s world or weather we want to jump the hoops just to catch a plane, celebrities are jet setting around the globe racking up miles on celebrity private jets.

Tony Blair enraged environmental groups when he said he was not about to give up long haul flights. Even though the amount of emissions that the airline contributes to green house gasses is very small environmentalists feel it as important part of cutting out carbon emissions. While some of us may be thinking twice about whether we should fly for what ever reason the celebrities are jumping on their celebrity private jets.

Diving Safaris In The Maldives

Posted on March 18, 2008

One of the most exciting things to do while on holiday in the Maldives is to dive beneath the clear blue sea and spend some time with the amazing tropical fish and coral reefs.

It is possible to stay in a resort and go diving from there, however, I have found it is much more fun to spend a few days on a diving safari. These are generally made up of a dozen or so divers that live onboard a boat that is custom fitted for this purpose. On a diving safari you can pick and choose your dive sites, visit some of the smaller and more remote islands, and find secluded anchorages to spend the night.

Posted on March 18, 2008

The Rosario Island Coral Reef System is one of many marine National Parks in the Caribbean sea, and one of 46 in Colombia. The park covers an area of about 20 hectares of coral reef and 43 different islands.

The reef was formed hundreds of years ago. Volcanic activity deep below the earths surface pushed the seabed up over time, allowing coral beds to form and marine life to flourish. Today the area is home to more than 1,300 species of plants and animals and is a fantastic location for diving, snorkeling and other recreational water activities.
